Honour Amongst Thieves:

The boots struck the paving stones vigorously as the constables ran past the weaver's stall in the market. Silk looked out from behind the stack of baskets then quickly slipped down an alleyway. His hands dipped into the newly acquired money pouch transferring the contents to his own. Smiling he returned to the street. There were still plenty of marks walking about and it was early morning yet. The gentle jingling of an ample purse spun his head around like the scent of fresh bread would a beggars. The huntress stopped showing her pelts to a clothier turning her back to the crowd. Silk joined the crowd passing silently near her. His blade slashed her purse strings dropping the purse silently into his extended palm. A falcon landed on the horn of the huntress's saddle and gazed directly at Silk. He froze as a mischievous gleam filled the creatures eyes. A sharp cry echoed across the market silencing the crowd, freezing they turned to gaze toward the falcon. Silk bolted scurrying through the crowd like harried prey. Shouts of "Thief!" and "Cut-purse!" went up from within the crowd. The huntress spun giving chase, the falcon screeching as it tracked him through the crowd. The crowd thinned and smoke filled the streets over the screeching bird he heard the screams. He could barely make out the flames through the smoke. He hesitated, battling his instinct to abandon the helpless. He turned, resigning himself to the billowing smoke, plunging headlong into the burning establishment. Flames licked the walls and ceilings, the coiling smoke seared his lung and brought his eyes to tears. He made his way toward the muffled cries for help, a fallen beam pressed against the door. It rattled as the they tried to escape the conflagration. Silk pressed his palms against smouldering beam bracing himself and pushing the beam out of the way. The door flew open, Silk starred into to the face of the dead girl who collapsed in his arms, two daggers protruding from her back. His eyes darted from face to face, first victim, then slayer, and finally to the master of death his face no more than a silhouette backlit by flames. "Miss V, clean up." The slayer approached him at the command, the fire light reflecting in the polished blades that covered her waist and emphasising the curves of her luscious form. Her face was calm unconcerned and yet terrifying in the peace and beauty it held. She moved quickly, faster than any creature he had ever seen, grasping his shoulder as she jump silently into the air before driving both knees into his ribs, the force of the blow sending him sprawling. She landed over him, a feline hunter only to strike like a serpent, driving her fist into his throat. Her shadow hid his face from the flickering firelight, the darkness devouring first sight, then his thoughts.

Muffled voices echoed in the darkness rousing him to a blurry shadow filled world alight with the embers of raging fires. "My Lady Vladna. Myself and Miss V where pleasantly surprised to see The Lady Huntress of Latswin running into a burning building after a fleeing pickpocket." Silk connected the voice with the toothy grin of a less blurry shadow. "Miss V remind me to thank our quick fingered friend for bring us this most worthy sacrifice. My Lady Vladna when you told me why you had come here I was quite amused, you see I am not a believer in luck or fate. Yet it appears that My disbelief has been proved incorrect. Fate it seems wishes that we live and that you die, painfully." His boot drove into the gut of crumpled form at his feet. Silk's eyes meet those of the huntress. Only forgiveness was carried in her gaze, a pained smile on her lips. A second strike tore their eyes apart. "Are you even listening My Lady? We had hoped to make a greater spectacle of your death. Something to put the fear into the house of Latswin. Alas this will have to suffice, I'll be sure to pass your last words on to Lord Latswin." The grinning shadow drew his rapier, Silk could make out the crest of the Grondinium Assassin's guild on the hilt. The other shadow helped Vladna to her knees. Silk stood up, to face his second moral crux of the day. Charging into the midst of the circling assassins Silk grabbed Vladna pulling her into his chest as he plunged backward through the glass window. The shards of glass sliced into his flesh as he tried to roll backwards, driving deeper as they hit the paving stones. Vladna rose from atop the cobbles beside him, he saw the jar of lamp oil heading toward her. He scrambled to push her out of the way the, jar hit the ground where she had been splashing into his face. The flash as it ignited was blinding, before he had drowned in darkness and now he drowned in light.

A cool sensation ran across his skin, burning as it ran it's course through the burns on his face. He lay perfectly still as warm gentle hands cleaned his wounds while the cold iron of the manacles chilled his wrists. "Do you need to chain the boy and stand vigil with hand on blade?" Asked the soft feminine voice attached to the hands that worked the wound. The hands finished their work and he heard her rise "Now we leave him be, to heal and that includes you sir guardsman."

A grunt answered her as she opened the door, an armoured bulk made it's way to the bedside. "Heal well little thief. I want to hear a healthy snap when you drop."

"I would appreciate it if you would refrain from harassing my patient sir." The woman's voice made the guard spin his keys jingling audibly before disappearing into Silk's palm. The guardsman grumbled as he made his way out, slamming the door harshly out of spite. Silk twisted the key into manacles earning him the immediate freedom needed to escape. He put on what was left of his clothes and silently barricaded the door with a chair. Dowsing the candles in the room, he watched the shadows under the door as he opened the window looking down at the immediate drop and nearly impossible climb down.

"Well, My lady Soun I hope that I still have your favour. Otherwise we will have to have a long talk when I get up there." He spoke gazing up at the sky, the cracks revealed by the moonlight, perfect hand holds for ascending the tower. "My lady Freya I appreciate your assisting me at your sister's behest. Please be sure to thank her for me when next you see her." He grinned at the moon as he made his way out of the window and up the outside of the tower. After several minutes of daring climbing he clambered over a balcony to what appeared to be royal apartments of some kind. Sneaking into the apartments, he entered what appeared to be a high-born ladies bedroom. He dove seeking cover under the bed as its occupant stirred, a restless slumber for the lady seemed inevitable. Silk rose quietly from under the bed, cocking his head to one side as he gazed at the Lady Vladna deep in the throws of fitful slumber. He gently ran the backs of his seared fingers over her cheek as he murmured a soft "Shhhhhhh……" She calmed at his touch, he smiled softly as he became entranced by grace. The flash of her throat as she breathed, the purrs of pleasure she breathed to him as his fingers ran across her rosy cheeks. He lowered his face towards hers, her soft breaths caressing the scarred flesh of his face before he pressed his lips to hers kissing her softly. She pulled herself toward him as the glint of steal from the balcony caught his eye. His arms wrapped about her, as he tore her from the comfort of her bed and slumber. She fell against his chest with a scream of surprise as the daggers drove into her now empty bed with a hiss. A wolf snarled as it dashed into the room, charging at the shadow preparing to unleash another dagger. A falcon's talons slashed the hand that raised the throwing dagger drawing out an oath of pain from the figure. Not liking the odds the shadow dove of the balcony's edge into the night. Silk sat staring into Vladna's eyes as he held her in his arms.

"Thank… Thank You, little thief. It seems I owe you my life." Her eyes looked at the daggers protruding from her bed before tracing the burns on his face "Again it would seem." She leaned towards him, her hand pressing gently on his chest. As her lips grew nearer he hungered to taste her once again the memory burning like an undying ember of flame. His arms drew her closer to him, her hand sliding gracefully over his burned face clasping it softly as she raised herself up placing a graceful kiss upon his forehead. He stared at her, desperate to control his desire as his unsatisfied hunger beat on the walls of his chest like a mad beast. "Would you please let me up little thief." He stared at her confused for a moment before releasing her and scrambling hurriedly to help her to her feet. The echoes of stomping footsteps made their way up the tower, a familiar guardsman's voice leading the charge.

"Good evening My Lady Vladna." he replied with a quick bow his eyes searching desperately for an escape and yet all he saw lay back the way he came. Vladna followed him out to the balcony confused by his actions.

As he clambered of the rail she grabbed his arm, releasing it slightly at his grimace of pain. Fresh blood ran down his arm over her fingers, the burns on his forearms broken open by her grasp. "Stay, Little thief, Please stay."

Silk smiled at her over the rail. "I would love nothing more My Lady." She starred at him as he ran a finger across her cheek, cupping her face in his damaged palm. He pulled her toward him, leaning back over the railing so as not to unbalance her, his gentle kiss quelling her murmur's of surprise. He whispered softly, pressing his forehead to hers. "Alas, My aversion to ropes and sudden stops would prevent that." He climbed down the tower leaving her starring in open surprise after him. The sound of guards breaking into her apartments echoed out into the night.
