Is there a method to do this?
Is it possible?
According to science it is. You might have to be more specific about the situation in which you would automatically fight or defend.

This instinct has nothing to do with combat
Yes it does. Combat is a physical confrontation that ends with either fight, flight or shock. Not even accounting for your upbringing, you will automatically do one of these three things, hence fighting can be considered an instinct depending on the confrontation.

I dont think he means "Can i have a fighting instinct." I think means "Can I fight my instincts and what are the rules for that"

That's Okay. I'm kind of bemused by my grammar on my previous post. "I Think Means" hahaha ridiculous.

exactly!
Considering that there was no response to the question I'll take it to mean that there are no rules to fight an instinct and not follow it
But that would means that you can not "grow" beyond your instinct, that can't be right.
plus i no longer remember what instinct I was even thinking of.
found the answer in the gold excerpt, most likely it didn't change
.paraphrase.
instincts are used fully as long as they exist there is no "I don't use my instinct this time" however a player may change his instincts when ever he chooses, GMs may delay the change to an appropriate time if he/she feels that the player is not changing them for character growth but for power gaming
.End paraphrase.
changing in stages might be a good idea
ie
1st version) I draw my sword when i'm surprised (excellent for combat, very bad for when in the presence of the king)
2nd version) I start drawing my sword when i'm surprised
3rd..) I grab the hilt of my sword when i'm surprised
….
nth) I show no emotion when i'm surprised (bad for combat, excellent for when in the presence of the king)
We've been playing that way. The "I draw my dagger at the first sign of combat" instinct was pretty common and had some hilarious results at first. Think tavern full of people all having that instinct. One gets insulted and starts to pull out a dagger. Suddenly, the room is bristling with shiny blades.
